Scringo ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our screenshot translation application.

Information We Collect

1. Screenshot Images

• What: Screenshots from your device's photo library or camera
• How: Only when you explicitly grant photo library or camera access permissions
• Purpose: To extract text for translation
• Processing: All image processing happens locally on your device using iOS Vision Framework
• Storage: Images are processed locally and not stored permanently. Only the extracted text and a reference to the original image (URI) are saved locally for your review.

2. Translation Data

• What: Extracted text and translation results
• Storage: Stored locally on your device using secure storage (AsyncStorage)
• Duration: Stored until you manually delete them from the history
• Processing: All translation happens on-device using Apple Translation Framework (iOS 18+)

3. Usage Data (Local Only)

• What: Translation timestamps for usage limits
• Storage: Stored locally on your device
• Purpose: To enforce free tier limitations (max 10 uses at a time, recovers 1 use per hour)

On-Device Processing

Scringo uses Apple's built-in frameworks for all core functionality:

iOS Vision Framework (OCR)

• Purpose: Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to extract text from images
• Processing: All OCR processing happens entirely on your device
• Privacy: Your images never leave your device for OCR processing
• Requirements: iOS 13 or later

Apple Translation Framework (Translation)

• Purpose: Text translation between languages
• Processing: All translation happens entirely on your device
• Privacy: Your text never leaves your device for translation
• Requirements: iOS 18 or later
• Language Packs: Translation requires downloading language packs (handled by iOS)

Third-Party Services

RevenueCat (Payment Processing)

• Purpose: Managing in-app purchases and subscriptions
• Data Collected: Purchase history, subscription status (managed by Apple)
• Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Data We Do NOT Collect

• ❌ Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• ❌ Device identifiers for tracking or advertising
• ❌ Location data
• ❌ Contacts or other personal data
• ❌ Usage analytics or crash reports
• ❌ Permanent copies of your screenshots
• ❌ Network data (screenshots and text never leave your device)

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

All translation history is stored exclusively on your device. We do not:

• Upload your data to our servers
• Share data with third parties (all processing is on-device)
• Use data for advertising or marketing
• Track your behavior
• Transmit screenshots or text over the network

Data Retention

• Translation History: Stored on your device until you delete it manually
• Usage Timestamps: Usage timestamps older than 1 hour are automatically removed (allowing usage recovery)
• Screenshot References: Screenshot image references (URIs) are stored locally with translation history for review purposes. You can delete them anytime from the history screen.

Your Rights and Controls

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: View all translation history in the app
• Delete: Delete individual translations or clear all history anytime
• Export: Copy translations for your personal use
• Revoke Permissions: Disable photo library or camera access in iOS Settings at any time

Permissions Explained

Photo Library Access (Required)

• Purpose: To detect and process screenshots for translation
• Scope: Read-only access to detect new images
• Usage: Only accessed when the app is in the foreground
• Note: You can revoke this permission anytime in iOS Settings

Camera Access (Optional)

• Purpose: To capture images directly for text recognition and translation
• Scope: Camera access only when you use the camera feature
• Usage: Only accessed when you explicitly tap the camera button
• Note: This is optional - you can use the app without camera access by using existing screenshots

Children's Privacy

Scringo does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general language learning and does not target children specifically.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Updating the "Last Updated" date
• Displaying a notice in the app (for material changes)

Data Deletion

To delete all your data:

1. Open Scringo app
2. Go to History screen
3. Tap "Clear All" to delete all translation history
4. Uninstall the app to remove all local data
